I'm brand new to photography. I just felt like making this photo black and white was the right thing to do. But I don't know anything behind the theory.. it was just a gut thing from a pure noobie.

Here's another one that I'm really not sure about.. maybe the guitar should be in focus? I'm a big rookie as you can tell.

I think you are too far away in the top post. As a result, there's a lot of space that does not add to the image.
You have some nice audience silhouettes, but they are only looking at part of the stage. A closer cop would give the illusion of intimacy:
