A local park has an area of water that never seems to freeze over. It is part of a river so the flowing water keeps it open. As a result, Canadian Geese that seem confused with their direction of travel tend to find it. I spent about an hour today camped out on the shoreline, buried in snow. I couldn't get all the way down to the water, since I didn't want to find myself waist deep unexpectedly. I also realized how keen they are in spotting me before landing. I had to remain absolutely motionless to get them to commit to the landing, otherwise they would abort and fly off...
