Dove in the Rain

How many species of doves visit your yard Mr, this a new fella?

Ps. Dark and stormys ok, just as long as it isn't cold🤣.

We have three species that I can identify. The one above is a Eurasian Collared Dove. We also have White Wing Doves and Mourning Doves. The weather here has been chilly.

In Dutch it's called 'Turkse tortel' which means Turkish dove and also in other European countries this species is alled Turkish dove instead of Eurasian dove. It's an invasive exotic species that breeds several times a year and in the past 10 years has unfortunately completely outnumbered the species native to our country.
Yes, it is not native to here either. They were introduced in the Carribean and have migrated into the Southeast US and have made it to North Texas. They were dominating my bird feeder for a while, so I stopped filling it until they left. Since I've refilled it, one or two have showed up, but not the dozen that were chasing away the other birds as before.

Contract a couple Cooper's Hawks to hang out till they split.

Wonderful image, Jeff!
Thank you!

I have a hawk visit the yard from time to time, and all the birds scatter then. Watched it zoom full speed into the holly bush one day, pretty impressive that it didn't impale itself on a branch.

Hereabouts, it's usually "dine-in" but they're infrequent visitors so no problem for the quick tiny guys or bluejays.
A juvenile Cooper's chowin' down last winter. Plainly ain't no bird photographer...
