Some people are more careful with their music than others. All the Elvis stuff is done "in-house" so it never gets leaked. Bands like Oasis, Coldplay, etc. seem to be lazy (or rather the recording studio and it's virtually every band) and it isn't unusual to see a copy of it floating around a month or two before it gets taken to the factory to be pressed. Perhaps the demo gets left out and a cleaner spots it and thinks "I'll 'ave that" and then spreads it about? But I thought everything was under lock and key and very secure. Or at least supposed to be. Some get leaked from the factories as well. I think the CD's which go out to record stations are encoded so if they get duplicated they can nose at the CD and see where it came from. But then, I don't think is an issue if they're turned into mp3's or other types.
