Dropped 50mm 1.8

I was shooting a gig and suddenly my bag opened up and my Canon 50mm 1.8 fell from the height of about 4 feet on a concrete floor, The lens isnt sharp anymore at 1.8 it produces shaky images though seems to work fine at 2.8. What could be the issue? Can it be fixed?

well i think it's toast, repair likey cost more than a new lens.

I would just toss it and get the 1.4

The Canon 50 mm f/1.8 II has el cheapo build quality to begin with. You're lucky, a lot of them just break into 2 big pieces when they are dropped.

I recently had a lens repaired by Canon. (50mm F1.4).

It hadn't been dropped, the AF just stopped working correctly. Before even looking at the lens, there was a $100 (CDN) charge, plus $10 S&H plus tax.
They repaired the lens and sent it back within a few days, no additional costs.

The retail price of the 50mm F1.8 is $125 US (nor sure what it would cost you in India), so it's probably not worth the cost to repair it, vs getting a new one.

Yeah, I would just toss it and get another one, or spend a little more and get the 1.4. It might make you a little more careful with your gear that way!

I used to work in a camera store. Every week someone would come in with a broken Canon EF 50mm 1.8.
Seems like if you stare at it a little too sternly it will spontaneously fall apart.
