can you suggest how i could do that as im just starting to get into photography. Dont really know much about how to use PSP or Photoshop!!

Is this a scanned print?
I'm sure you had a scanner software come with the scanner, and usually it also includes a basic postprocessing programme for digitalised photos, so that, once you have scanned in your print, you can bring about some changes. Usually, you can also be quite subtle with those programmes, too, though Photoshop works smoothest. Check your programmes out and look for means to lighten up the dark areas only. My programme calls that "Adaptive Helligkeit", but then
