I use Lightroom and therefore have never had that issue.

I also haven't updated my version of lightroom since I've purchased it. Haven't found a need to yet. Going back and re-naming "10 years" of digital photos is going to make you go insane. It will take you a fraction of the time to learn how to use DAM software, and re-import and tag your photos with the proper organization. It's true.

I understand that it's not up for 'debate' and I'm not trying to force lightroom on you, I think you're just severely underestimating its ease of use and how valuable it would be in this situation.

But if you really enjoy individually naming all of your files, which can be an extremely tedious task, more power to you. That takes a lot of... uh, what's the word... dedication?

I use Aperture and it also allows for batch changes very easily.
