I guess I can't play. I tried editing, but it became so pixelated I wanted to pour muratic acid in my eyes.

Thanks everyone! One of the first things I HAD to do was level the horizon. Bugs me so bad with the pics I took that weekend.

Not understanding this.

Are you suggesting that you ordinarily get it so good that you DON"T have to straighten?

OK, I'll toss up what I was able to do.

I got the message that the little boy was in awe of the ocean, so I actually reduced him in size. This places his entire body below the horizon, giving the further impression that the ocean is much larger than he is. I also selected him, then used a liquify function to expand the image horizontally to give him 'more to look at' in the scene. Since he was reduced by 25%, I had to extend his reflection in the water on the beach to the bottom of the image. I also cloned in a bit more of the reflection of his shorts to complete the effect.

Although I wanted to do a lot of changes based on color in order to convert it to black & white, the image is so small it starts to pixelate long before I get to the tones I'm after. So I scaled them back as much as I dared, but they still pixelate.. especially in the sky.

I also leveled the horizon, and did a final bump in contrast at the end.

No no no... I wish I could get the horizon perfect every shot. Maybe after practice. I don't go to the beach all that often so getting the horizon perfect is not something i'm used to.

What he's saying is that this resolution is only about 1.5 megapixels. If that's what you shoot at, you might want to re-think your camera's resolution settings. That's probably fine for web posting the SOC image, but if you want to do anything with it, it's GOT to be higher resolution.

Yes, if you're shooting to post on FB or something, it's enough to simply post, but as some have said in the comments about editing, the image gets pretty fuzzy pretty quickly when you try to do things to it.

1599x1066 vs 2464x1632 may not sound like a big difference, but the latter is 4mp instead of 1.5.

Even going to about 3600x2500 is only 10mp, and I'm pretty sure your camera is capable of that, at least.

It could be that this TinyPic site automatically resizes image to a certain maximum. Or the OPs account has it set up to do that.

Either way, a full-resolution images would be nice to work with. Raw instead of jpeg is all the better.

Just plan on straightening or verifying all your shots. That takes the stress out of it.

Oh, yes. It does that when I upload it on TinyPic ....I could do it in other sizes, didn't know if it was going to make it weird posting on the thread though.
