? Editing technique I just saw...

I will explain you what you have to do step by step.

1) You open the picture you want to apply the effect.

2) Duplicate that picture (control + j or command + j in the mac I guess), you will do this step because you should never work in the original file.

3) Go to the adjustment layers palette where you have curves, brightness/contrast, levels etc, and choose the ajustment layer called Black&White. It will appear a window with sliders. You don't have to do anything there, but you can play with the sliders that you have if you want. Simply come to the layers where you see all the layers you have, so you will see that you have created a black and white ajustment layer after the duplicated of your original image.

4) When you do this, you can see that the blending mode is set to normal, so you go there and you change it to Overlay

5) After that, you just have to play around with the opacity of that B&W layer in the blending mode Overlay, so you can set it to 30% or any other number you want between 1 and 100%
