Editting Pictures for Contest

Can pictures be editted by using any softwares for contests? Is it allowed?

it depends on the contest. They usually allow small editing (contrast, brightness etc.). Look at the rules of the contest. It should be written there

Also, after contacting several "NO EDITING" contests for clarification I have found that many of them actually allow cropping, color correction, brightness editing. Basically, what a pro lab would do for you in the darkroom. Some of the contests are also honestly unaware of just how much image manipulation takes place as a matter of course in developing labs.
