Just joined the forum because i'm shopping for a new camera. But here's a picture of the blood moon I pulled off with my Olympus E520 despite it's poor sensor and age. Yes, some post processing in lightroom made some undetectable stars pop out. From my understanding the olympus is one of the worst cameras for taking pictures in dark situations, but it's still does a decent job I guess.

You're right about that sensor, but that's a solid result. What lens were you using, the SWD?

The lens was the older non-SWD 50-200. It was 1/2 as much used as the SWD version and I only use it every now and then (Plus the e520 does not support the higher speeds of the high speed lenses anyways).

If you have suggestions on an upgrade path please let me know in this thread below. I'm considering getting an Olympus E5, but probably won't make many friends if I do lol.

Impressive. Way better than what I got out of my Canon, but I think that's a combo of crappy lens and crappy astrophotographer.

Don't worry about joining the Canikon bandwagon. If Olympus is what you want, don't settle for a Nikon Coolpix.
