A friend of mine is, what I consider, an amazing photographer. His photos are simply stunning and are what I want to be...one day that is.

Here is a link to a photo example:

They're back... and they're hungry! photo - Steve Hiscock photos at pbase.com

(providing a link to follow TPF rules with other photographers work)

How the heck do you get sharpness that is this clean, and this exact? It it a matter of shooting in broad daylight with a mid to small aperture (f11'ish)? Is it done in processing after the exposure is captured?

I'm curious and want to get some expert feedback from some of TPF's best!

Thanks.

fast shutter speeds, good lens and great lighting

the fstop was 6.1 shutter speed 2000 and a full frame camera body

The best aperture to shoot at is lens dependent. Also simply shooting at say F22 will not make your pictures more sharp as they will suffer from diffraction. Check out this link for more on that...
Diffraction

There are other factors such as shutter speed and camera shake that will also contribute to how sharp your photo is.

And then there is sharpening in post process.

Most amateurs globally sharpen and most pros locally sharpen.
