Fresh water jellyfish, presented for your enjoyment. Taken in cold water (53 degrees-60 degrees at the thermocline) with 5 foot or so of visibility. No flash possible due to unmanageable backskatter. The animals are the size of a dime to the size of a quarter.

the first one is awesome!!!

Wayyyyy cool! I had no idea such a creature even existed! Thanks for posting these very nice underwater shots.

Cnidarians! Fun fact: They both take in and expel waste from the same spot.

How cool are they! I actually really like the one with the torch gives a great sense of scale but they are all fab!

Love the pics, very cool. Where we're these taken?

Very nice! With that kind of visibility, I'm pretty certain I would have missed it.

Very cool photos!
I was just reading an article the other day about jellyfish being seen more frequently in the Great Lakes; your photos are way better than what they showed.

Thanks. They were taken in an abandoned rock quarry near Jefferson City, Missouri. Nikon D300, 18-55 VR lens (believe it or not).

I have never seen these guys before, very interesting! Great set!
