Experimenting with backlight

His face is underexposed and seems soft..

Thanks for the feedback, why do u think its under-exposed?

Because it is? You can just tell, his face is darker than it should be. However, had you exposed his face properly, the background blinding white light would have ruined it. I'd just scrap the photo if i were you.

Gotcha! I was jst testing the backlight. Maybe I could use an external flash mount next time to lighten up the face?

Or a reflector.

yeah, which would be a better choice? I dont have a reflector yet, rather an SB-700 flash.

Yes you do. The top of an insulated styrofoam cooler. A sheet of poster board. Even a white cutting board. Think outside the box, Man!

When you are a broke high school student, you tend to think this way! Heck, i made a flash diffuser out of a shoe box, and used wax paper and tinfoil.

Well there you go!

I do use something like this as a reflector in outdoor locations where the light is sufficient enough. This is my room the the light behind is coming from a window. Its quiet soft as the light source is large so the reflector that I use doesn't reflect enough light on the face. I'll use the flash and the reflector and post the pictures to tell you what Im talking about.
