What's new

Exploring in Belize. Unedited. C&C welcome.

These are really neat. I think you should add contrast to both, more to the first.

That second one is pretty awesome.

Cool! What part of Belize did you visit? We were in Placencia for ten days late last year.

Pretty pics but why post and advertise "unedited"?

We stayed in Placencia for a couple weeks...spent a lot of time at Maya Beach...loved the country and the people....the food and OMG I brought home 2 cases of hot sauces, lol. Every couple of days we would drive to a random spot on the map...sometimes we would encounter ruins and get a decent dose of cardio in. Looking forward to a return trip after Virgin Gorda and Africa!!!

I am considering turning #2 into a paper negative and playing with it in the darkroom...

I adore that image. I have to admit that being there in person was a little creepy...like the precursor to a horror film, lol. It is just an iPhone snapshot. I want to revisit and use my F100. :)

This is is my thought on posting and admitting that my images are unedited:
I am a beginner to film and digital photography.
I very much would like to know which aspect are working and which can use improvement prior to editing.
I think that photography and editing are very different mediums.
I am not against editing, but would like a solid base in photographic skills without having to heavily rely on post production, if that makes sense.
Once you alter an image, for whatever reason, the initial intent changes. I would like for whatever change I make to be purposeful rather than to improve my basic photography skills.

if you are not editing, who or what is? How do you think the image you posted got there? A digital camera records a raw image. If you shoot jpg the camera is 'editing' with the presets you or the factory make. That's editing. A good photographer takes more control of the artistic transformation of a photograph....editing.

With these pics, yes...I agree with you. There is editing within the shooting, the iPhone did make decisions, I composed the frame. With images from my dslr and f100, I shoot RAW and no auto modes with my body or lens. That's considered cheating in my photography class...how would one learn to properly use the camera if you shoot in any auto mode.

When I say editing, I should be specific. I mean loading an image into a post production program and making changes, corrections, cropping etc.

YOU CANNOT SEE A RAW IMAGE it has to be edited and converted to another format to be seen..Even the conversion process imparts particular edit to an image. Why allow a computer to have that control? Don't think you are being more artistic because you leave it to the machine to make the decisions, you are only stressing your naivety on the subject.

Take your LR classes, learn and enjoy.

Besides the perspective distortion in #2 (which isn't enough to be interesting but too much to be ignored), my eye is drawn to that black hole at the right, near the corner.
