Fantasy Dolls And Ruby Black

This is a school project I did back in 1973 or 1974. Shot with my old Minolta SRT101 and it's 3 lenses, 35mm, 58mm, and 135mm. Really don't remember if all 3 were used though. IIRC, this would have probably been Tri-X shot at 400, developed in D-76.

Ruby was an old woman who lived outside Dagget, CA, at a 'rock shop' She had been there for many years with her husband Calvin, who had passed away a few years before. He carved all the dolls himself. Ruby died several years later, and is buried next to Calvin in the Dagget Pioneer Cemetery. When I'm in the area, I stop and tend their grave.

This was taken June 2009 by the wife of my friend on the left, Mike. That's me on the right. We are tending Calvin and Rubys grave, and in the background is Elephant Mountain, where Ruby lived just beyond. You can see it in the near background of pic 'fd-12.jpg' (next-to-last).

You know, that was so long ago, and Dagget is such a small, desert rat type place, that I don't think anyone even remembers them there any more. The place disappeared soon after she died, can't even tell it was there, some nice desert ranchero is there now...
