Favorite photographers

From my member spotlight.....

For years, my favorite photographer was Ansel Adams. Most of his influence was in the darkroom. I think it showed in the fact that in the mid 90's while working at Clayton Camera I became known for my superior BW printing skills. But after seeing the documentary "The Genius of Photography" (2007) my new favorite became Eugene Atget. His Paris scenes are, to me, something to marvel.

By the way: anyone who is, or wants to be, a photographer should see that documentary.

So many, it's hard to choose just 1. My friend showed me a book by August Sander the other day, awesome photographer. I have come to the conclusion that you cannot know how good a photographer really is until you see their work in print.

We live in a click and scroll world where images flash by in a fraction of a second, so it takes something really special to catch my eye. I personally dont have many, if any "favorite" photographers. I get most of my inspiration from the old masters, especially where light/shadow is concerned. I follow some more current photographers for technical guidance, people like Monte Zucker, Dean Collins, Joey L., even some here on TPF over the years. Not dismissing others work but photography for me is a very personal creative effort.
