A few shots I took yesterday. Any tips or advice are more than welcome - I am having a lot of difficulty getting the snow to look correct. Here are my 4 favorites - let me know how to improve.
Still learning my DSLR (1 week into it) - these were all taken with either Tamron 90mm macro lens or Tamron 70-300 - D200 shot in Aperture mode.

1 is a nice shot. Good exposure and beautiful tree.
The rest don't really do it much for me. 2 is kind of interesting, but not really drawing me in. 3 is out of focus. I think 4 would benefit from a different time of day.

Thanks - sun was setting at my back in most of these. I couldn't get #4 to look right at all - it was right before sun set, I will try a different time of day as you suggest as I really want it to work.

With 2 I was really drawn in by the shadows contrasting the highlights on the trees from the sun setting so I was trying to put emphasis on that.

I have no excuse for 3 being out of focus. Bad shot I didn't notice it in my own CC.

The first one is the best. I think it would benefit more however from a change of position. There's a house in the background but all we see is the roof. I'd try and find a view where you can capture the tree by itself or include the full frame of the house. Still a nice shot. The rest don't really do anything for me. The last two especially as they both look overexposed.

I also think the first is the best. I think there needs to be more sky above the tree, though. And maybe if the tree were to the right a little more. I don't know if you cropped it, but if you did, then 'back up' just a bit so it's not so cramped.

3 is the best for the graffiti on the left.

Have to agree that number 1# is the most enjoyable. The others didn't really do much for me. Probably would have looked to cut the little house out the pic and the power lines....

I'll have to learn a bit more about photoshop to make some of those changes to #1. I opted to have the roof of the house in the photo over moving it to the left and having the highway with cars :(

Shot #1 was taken with a 90mm macro, I may go back today with snow boots on so I can back up and do more with the frame.

Interesting how everyone seems to like #1, and yet it's the one that does the least for me. I find it too dark (especially toward the top), and as a result the tree itself seems "fuzzy" (almost like it's out of focus, or like the branches were all shaking in the wind).

(However, consider that I'm new to this game - check out my post count - and my eyeballs maybe haven't calibrated themselves yet.)
