ahh, this must be the male I guess...

no good picture just a moon shot thought, can see the red head though.

Any in focus shot of a kinglet is a good one...they're frenetic little birds! Your last photo is a good quiz-bird shot.

nice shots, how are you liking the tc20eIII?

I cannot comment yet really. I find the lens alone is downright great. the tc14e is very good even wide open at f4, very usable.

the tc20e iii, seems like its pretty good most of the time, focus is a little bit slower, but still just fine for larger BIF. still kinda hit and miss on sharp photos with it. doesn't even seem like a focus thing, but it may very well be, it actually might need autofocus fine tune. putting it at -20 on my 500mm manual focus with tc16a teleconverter made it dead accurate, so maybe the same thing is needed for the 2x, just because it changing so much.

anyways, this was my first day with the new lens (300mm af-s II) and the tc20e, so I will have to get back after more shooting. im willing to bet around -20 autofocus fine tune will really help on the d800 when using the tc20e iii. that dog photo was still pretty sharp at 100% and that was wide open with the tc20e, F5.6

here is a 100% crop of the dog straight out(raw) d800, opened in photo shop and nothing was done to it but cropped, so no sharping or anything. this was 600mm F5.6 wide open using the tc20e iii, ISO was high at 2000 as you can see the noise. this was also handheld at 1/1000 second.

one thing I must say is im super glad I went with the 300mm, its so lightweight and small if you compare it to anything else in the super telephoto range. my 500mm f4 manual focus was a bear to lug around mostly because of its size. the weight wasn't bad on the manual focus 500mm but its size was rather large and obnoxious. the 300mm however you can almost go out in public with it without people thinking you have little wee wee syndrome... LOL

see big, but not insane. works very well on a black rapid...

yeah I agree. its a very versatile lens, I'd like to give the tc20eiii a shot too though I probably won't be able to get one for a while, I'm interested to see how you like it as you get a chance to use it more. I've been reasonably satisfied with how my 1.7 has performed on the 300, and I haven't had a chance to really work on dialing it in.
