I've enjoyed capturing images of figure skating. The sport features amazing athletes in colorful costumes in a competitive environment. In addition, it gives me a chance to use one of my favorite lenses...the Nikon 200 f2!

I set the exposure manually at 1/800th seconds, f/2, ISO 2,000. I went with 21 point dynamic auto focus. Many of these pictures are uncropped...or cropped very little. The D850 performed magnificently--nearly every picture was sharp...and the noise was very manageable. My only regret was that 1/800th was just a bit too slow for some of the action. It was fine for many images, but I could have used a higher shutter speed for the faster spins. That being said, I would have had to increase my ISO...

Thanks for looking...

Glenn,
Keep your notes for the next time you shoot.
Some times you just have to crank up the ISO to get the shot. Forget the noise. I call it raise the ISO and get the shot with noise, or get a blur with less noise at lower ISO.

It would be very hard to pick a favourite, as they are all great shots.

Very nice series!!!!!!!!!!

Very nice set; D850 & f2/200? That is one helluva combination!
Thanks...it is an very enjoyable combination to shoot with.

Yes...for the most part, my settings worked. It's just that in some of the shots with faster action there was some slight blur. It would be nice to be able to switch settings instantly as the fastest action only applied to less than 5% of the shots.
It would be very hard to pick a favourite, as they are all great shots.
Thanks Dave
Very nice series!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you!

I like #6. There is some drama there. I think #9 is my favorite, though. That girl is as cute as a button.

Thanks for sharing!

Wonderful images as usual. Very talented photographer.

So, you are not a one trick pony! These are as good as your architecture photos! Great set.
Thanks Dean...much appreciated! I pretty much shoot everything. My last photo shoot covered a baseball game and the one before that was a morning of shooting orchids with my macro lens. My next photo shoot will be some portraits using studio lights.
Wonderful images as usual. Very talented photographer.
Thank you...very much appreciated!
