Hello everyone,

I am having some file size issues with my HDR photos. I'm not sure how much of a file size I should be having for my HDR photos. Right now i'm doing about 1mb each for my real estate tours.
I want it to be fast to load, but at the same time I don't want to lose any quality.

Right now in light room I am just selecting "Limit File Size To: 1500k" and the results are not that great. But if I do the full 17mb file size then it looks great. But your going to have to wait for about 10 minutes lol.

Should I be selecting long edge and doing around 1000 pixels?

I thank you guys in advance.

I dont use lightroom but any JPG can be compressed a bit to reduce file size without too much distortion.

That one is 87k 800 x 800 pixels.

I dont know if lightroom does batch processing (sounds like you have a lot of pics to process) but Irfanview does and its free. Set your longest edge limitation, set compression factor (experiment to suit quality required), set sharpness, saturation etc. I can process 100 images for web in about 2 minutes and when you save the workflow it takes even less time.

Hope that helps.

cheers

I think 1200 pixels on wides and 800 pixels on "talls" at 72 ppi and a file size limit of 1,500k ought to produce VERY nice-looking images. On pictures that have very little detail, like say, large, smooth areas of walls, building facades, and so on, the 1,500k limit ought to be NO issue, with many images com,ing in at 650 to 785k, I would estimate. On scenes that have a LOT of fine detail, like say a shot of an orchard, or a 20-foot tall, wide hedge, the file will probably write with the full limit of 1,500k used, to get the fine detail rendered well.

I'm not sure what screen rez most people are seeing these at...and also, these days so many people are using smallish laptops, iPads, tablet, and cellular phones that I think that many timers, even a 1,000- to 1,200 pixel wide image might be overkill.
