What's new

film cameras

The Diana camera is what started the "toy camera" craze. McKeown's camera price guide (once the bible for camera collectors) started listing it with a value of $100+ so it became credible as a collectible. It was also produced under other names and it became a game to collect them all. They were called "Diana Types." I regularly found them here in Southern California, often unused and like new in the box and selling for peanuts at swap meets, etc. Later, after production stopped on the original Diana cameras, the similar Holga camera came along and filled the gap with the help of Freestyle Photo Supply. Then, seeing the success of the Diana-ish cameras' re-birth, Lomo recreated the original Diana followed by many other similar cameras.

I don't get why that place is charging so much for something that isn't really as good as a late 70s canon 35mm

Because many consumers don't know or care about what is good but only what is COOL.

And, I don't mean to knock toy cameras or the people who use them. They can be fun and they help promote film photography which I like. But, I do agree that they are overpriced.
