Film Noir

Okay, so what I've been doing is a module on vintage portraits. After some sessions of development, I've arrived at this stage. I have been looking at Film Noir as one of my influences.

I'm after critique, so don't hold back, but please do be specific. After an initially positive response to my original sets, it seems to have dwindled and needs fixing. If anyone has any suggestions for techniques on light control, please do let me know (I've only got a couple of beauty dishes, barn doors and a softbox).

Bear in mind that I'm after the cinematic effect (Still Film Noir seems slightly different to me) captured in still.

The subject matter and setting sure do fit Film Noir. :thumbup:

I don't think the angle and quality of the light adequetly expresses the Film Noir genre. For me the light is to hard, and I find the harsh shadow of her head and arm distracting.

My feeling is she should have turned her head and eyes more towards the camera to create more shadowed depth in the facial mask and I would have suggested just a bit of reflected fill from camera right to put some definition in the black void of her dress that is right on the lower right ROT power point.

Interesting you should say that, most of the people on flickr were complaining about a lack of shadows and the light being too soft.
