Finally got the new printer

The new printer Canon Prograf-1100 arrived yesterday and finally got it in place and set-up. It's a beast weighing around 75 lbs. Double the weight of the Canon Pro-200 I now have up for sale. Will be exciting to print some larger prints.

Here's a photo printed at full size 17X22 certainly hard to tell from a camera shot of a photo but this is extremely detailed and colors are outstanding.

I have bought a few inexpensive frames for the 11x17 size with the old printer and a few 8.5 x 11. For these larger prints i doubt I frame a lot of them but I do feel the energy having them printed and being able to hold them in your hands.

Curious how cost compares (paper, ink, etc) and longevity to a commercial lab? I have a small photo printer, but the ink gets pricey.

I cant really answer that entirely and quite possibly a print lab is cheaper but there's a smile on my face every time I print off a photo as I feel that sense that I have created it from start too finish, so for me I can't put a price on that.

I will say ink cost is about 40% less on this printer due to the larger cartridges (14 ml vs 80 ml) Of course higher up front costs for the printer.

Quality wise the Pro-200 is really good, but of course as you would expect the Prograf-1100 raises the bar slightly higher. The 1100 shows solid improvement in the deep blacks as the INK formulation has changed even from the former prograf-1000 printer (Inks even between the former 1000 printer are not interchangeable). Also they have now added a blue cartridge as they identified that as another area they could specifically improve upon. I will say I mostly upgraded to get to the larger print size.

Interesting, I've read that "supposedly" adding blue to black creates a deeper, darker shade of black. Could that be the reason?

It could be. Here is what Canon States.

Improvement of Black Density​

The new matte black ink formula improves black density and achieves deeper black expression.

Greater Dark Blue Representation​

New colour design has improved reproducibility in blue-dark areas for a wider gamut of colours.

I'm sold on Canon printers. Have worn out a 9000 MKII and an iP100 and now using a 200, no complaints anywhere. I also frame all my own photo's, normally from old wood off old building. Did one last week for lady that has store close to home from an old picket off and old picket fence. All mine are from old scrap wood.

Nice work. Great way to save money and use up some old material. I especially like the "matting" effect in the last one here.
