Is there a way to search for specific posts from several years ago?

Yes.

Use the Advanced Search, select the left most - Search Single Content Type - tab.

Use the Additional Options section to chose a single forum to search, and/or to add other search search qualifiers.

Knowing how to use search delimiters is also helpful.

I sometimes use Google. Search for thephotoforum plus the subject.
