On Saturday we lost a firefighter. While it's not been officially announced, most believe he suffered a heart attack at work during training, and didn't seek treatment. He passed away later that evening at home.

The fire department contacted me to photograph the services on their behalf. I usually respond to emergency scenes to photograph, so they turned to me as their photographer.

It's was somber, but everyone was in good spirits, being surrounded by such a large family.

#2, 4, and 9 are absolute winners. Really nice.

Some really good pictures of a sad and poignant event. Well-done.

Very well done. RIP to a fallen hero. Heart attack is the number one cause of death, brought on by the physically demanding aspects of the job. The advances in PPE has done wonders to lessen the risks, but not when it comes to stress on the heart.

Beautiful photos of a sad event. Just photographed a firefighter funeral a few weeks ago myself. One of the most moving events I've ever photographed, no doubt.

Interesting points:
-I've never seen a flag flown from just one ladder truck.. that's interesting. Around here we string them between two ladders.
-sadly, cardiac events are still the number one cause of death in the fire service. We'ce advanced protective gear and how we fight fire to make our job safer, but have found nothing to improve the cardiac stress. Firefighter fitness is going to be the next huge push in the fire service.

Wow, fantastic job of an unfortunate event.

Great Shots Of An Unfortunate Event!
