first attempt with light painting

what is light painted versus just a long exposure at night with all the car lights on ?

Here was my first attempt at light painting. basically using a light to "paint" something - in this case the word "Hello" with a flashlight in a dark room with the shutter open.

so if you take a long exposure of an object, and shine a light over it to exposure it, what do you call it? light lighting?

it's obvious he shown a light on the front corner of the car to brigten it during a long exposure. It just wasn't incredibly sucessful.

Google "Harold Ross", he does beautiful light painting\sculpting.

This one I used the flashlight to highlight my son, for some some reason the game he was paying wasn't bright enough even at long exposures.


OP ...more light. Don't be afraid to walk around the car shining the light all over it, you won't come out in the picture, but try to keep the emitting end of the light covered from the cameras view because it will pick up that.

I know the lights of the car being on was obvious, but I thought the highlights of the rest of the car, for instance the wheels and the front were obvious also. With just the lights from the car, the detail of the rest of it would have been lost.

It is clean but its too dark. The light was chosen from wrong side. Some of the sides looking fine but some are not clear.
