I got a xsi and took it on my nephews field trip here are the best in my opinion of what I shot let me know what you think all shot through the kit 55-250mm the payara may have been the 18-55mm kit lens and all handheld

1. fence was in the way tried to make it as least noticable as possible

They are all pretty centered as for competition. Otherwise, they look fine.

I agree with #2 being the best, but you should crop it a bit. I really like that picture.

the funny part is that that pic is from inside the gift shop not one of the displays

the payara from #3 were rather large may have some full shots but not as good

I like propably #2 the best. Although it could be composed a little better. But it has great depth of field! The same thing can be said about the last pic and i like the shallow leaves on the right.

If Alex here hadn't said it before me already, I'd now have said the very same. Their centred composition is what struck me at very first sight for each and every photo presented here. And yes, the photos WOULD have been better, had you focused on the eye of each animal first, but then recomposed while keeping the shutter half-pushed, to only then shoot.

Yes, they're well composed and well taken considering you just got your camera.

However, don't forget the Rule of Thirds!
