First DSLR!! D90 + 18-200mm VR vs D7000 + Cheapo Lense

If you plan on doing a bit of burst shooting, might as well start using the SanDisk SDHC UHS-1 95 MB/s Class 10 16GB cards. I think they are going for $70 a pop on B&H and Adorama.

Oh quit the Pentax VS Nikon debate already, do not even do LightSpeed the favour of responding to his troll post. He's trying to start a flame war, the Pentax K5 is an amazing camera and the Nikon D7000 is an amazing camera. I agree with his comments regarding build quality, but in terms of IQ their is no difference.

Yeah, there's no reason for it, especially on Christmas Eve.
Evidently I hit a nerve with Nikon_Josh when I mentioned Pentax, particularly the K5 being the better camera body, when compared to the D7000.
I guess I better apologize for telling the truth. After all it is Christmas Eve. Nikon_Josh, I can clearly tell from your screen name that you are definitely not a Nikon fanboy.
In light of that I apologize If I've offended you in anyway, and would like to take this opportunity to wish you, and your family, a Merry Christmas.

Nice One. I own a D7000 myself but to be honest, unless i had both cameras in my hands for a couple weeks, it would be hard to say much. Specs only go so far. The rest comes down to handling, ease of use etc etc etc etc. I think we all get attached to our equipment but need to be open and to other brands and not slam our brands loyalities in other peoples face. I think being open and not too judgemental (unless asked to judge) is important.

Just my 2cents - not saying its worth anything.

Well aside for which one being better I placed an order on a 35mm 1.8 came to $196 shipped total spent $1146, that should get me learning more instead of relying on the zoom. Plus it will take sharper pictures, cant wait till the international car show comes to San Diego this January I am gonna have a lot of fun shooting cars Should I invest on a spare battery?

Any comments which memory card should I get??

Spare battery is a must. 1 at least, if possible get two. It's winter and the battery loses power fast.

Should a get a genuine Nikon battery or is the Duracell alternative good?

Also what class of memory do I need is Class 6 good?

Why? Because the D7k is suppose to be able to take advantage of the UHS-1 speeds available.

Yeah I agree, it was a petty argument. So let's call it a day!

Just to clarify though, only reason you got my back up was because you were repeatedly saying how the Pentax was 'BETTER' which I think is a matter of opinion seeing as both cameras share the same sensor.

But ah well it's a very trivial matter in reality, because both cameras produce amazing images! And I will admit that I was wrong to accuse you of being a troll, the K5 is a seriously underrated camera and I agree with you on this. Pentax should be given credit for releasing such a fine product. SO.. Merry Christmas Pentax for releasing an amazing camera that deserves alot more credit than it gets! By no means, am I a Pentax 'hater. I understand your message does have many hints of sarcasm in it, but I genuinely feel that perhaps the argument was an over reaction on both our parts when in other areas of life which actually matter, we may actually share alot in common. Starting with the obvious fact that 'we both obviously share a love for photography'?? Which in my opinion is a more important thing to share in common than using the same camera brand.

So you don't agree that glass is far more important? You wouldn't agree that bodies age at a much faster rate, well at least digital bodies...

I am one who does NOT agree that glass is, and I quote, "far more important". Without a body, the best glass is useless. With an old, really outdated body, even the BEST glass is limited by the sensor's resolving abilities. For example, a 10 MP body neutralizes high-end glass...the lens in use might as well be kit glass...when shooting hand-held, the degree of shake and camera movement can easily neutralize high-end glass and render it as pedestrian as kit glass...older camera bodies DID AGE RAPIDLY, but we have moved past that point now...we are now into an era when bodies from Nikon are coming out in a 4-year timeframe...this was NOT the case earlier, in the period from 1998-2007, when bodies improved and were, realistically, outdated in 18 month cycles...

THere are PLENTY of older Nikon lenses made in the 1980's, 1990's, and early 2000's that will provide good enough optics for most people. I would MUCH rather have a D7000 body and today's kit lenses and consumer lenses than a D100 and "pro-Nikkor" lenses...the improvements in sensor resolution, color-handling, dynamic range, and in high-ISO capability on the newest bodies makes today's Kit-level and consumer level zooms and primes into powerful imaging tools. An earlier poster mentioned lens distortion...that can now be easily removed in software in seconds...

Between the D90 and the D7000, I would rather have the D7000--as long as you can see well through its viewfinder. For me, the D7000's finder image is not that useable...the D90 and D7000 is also just a one-generation gap...a better comparison might be the D200 versus the D7000; in that comparo, the D7000 wins, hands-down. In video, the D7000 is more-advanced than the D90.
