First flutterby of the year...

[jeffashman40 3]

I ignored the weather reports (it's dropping into the 20's at the end of the week) and purchased some pollinator plants for the back. I attracted the first butterfly of the year almost immediately. This is a Large White on a Purple Pincushion. 400mm at about 24".

My daughter just noticed that this is a very cool switchable wordplay:

flutterby and butterfly… brilliant!

I can't claim credit for the term; I read it in some Victorian era novel, author forgotten to me.

This is known as "contrepétrie" in French…
a delicious but often salty word game.

We will be back in the 20s at night at the end of the week, so their life will be fleeting. I planted a wildflower patch for this year, so hopefully I will get many more and varied opportunities.

Nicely captured, Jeff. Good detail and color, it's very pretty.

Very nice! It'll definitely be a while before they show up in Pennsylvania!
