Sorry, but I am not into these. The angles are very strange and it makes it difficult, at least for me, to pick out details.

These are lovely, because of what they are but I have to agree with jwbryson, its hard to really SEE whats going on in each.

Focus in the first is on daddy's thumb ... I'm not sure you planned for having it there?
Other than that, also I was thinking: "Hard to find the BABY in these" (other than the last, of course)

Are you using presets/ actions or doing these on your own? The reason I'm asking is because often times presets/ actions distract by affecting the skin tones to the point where the vintage/ Instagram-y effect gets diminshed. I've noticed this on a few of your posts. Keep shooting and having fun.

I like the last one best ... like the other responses, the others, the baby kind of gets lost. #2 is a pretty good one of mom.

some of them on my own and some of them I am using actions....can you explain or elaborate a bit more........thanks so much for your time

This may be a total bust......I went in with the mindset of shooting more the parents as oppose to the babe....the moment of union with an addition......like I said this could be an epic fail....but an attempt nonetheless

The angles do make it hard to really see what's going on, but it probably also has something to do with the super tight shots as well as post work.

The first two seem especially yellow on my somewhat calibrated monitor.

The last photo is the best of the set. The colors still seem a bit off, but the focus seems right. Again, watch your framing/cropping... baby's forehead is slightly out of frame.

All that being said, I think you did well for the first time with this type of photography. I have a few birth shoots coming up this year and am pretty excited. At the same time, I'm nervous because that's one hectic environment!

Yes I see what you mean! I did my best to try and get everthing without getting in the way and withought asking for posing too much....nurses were running around and checking things and I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't getting in the way. This was the baby's first time nursing so I ended up going up the next day for some images of babe so that family could visit etc. You have to be quick in and out and stay out of the way.

When you use a preset, it's created by someone else and they usually give an example image that the preset was used on. Often times that preset was developed for that specific image. When you use the preset on one of your images, it doesn't take into account skin tones or white balance. All it knows is to move "X" slider one way and "Y" slider another way. You can always use a preset as a starting point and then adjust from there. Once you realize what you're adjusting you can do it on your own with any presets.

I am not a pro -- photography is just a hobby to me. But I have taken this kind of shot before when both of my daughters were born. I think what you might want to focus on is getting the baby's face in the photograph, well exposed, and maybe focus less on her surroundings. Clearly, if this is the first time the baby is nursing, then you definitely want to capture the mom's joy as well, so you'd want to shoot wide enough to get both of their faces in the photo.

Here is an example of what I mean. I'm not saying this is a *perfect* shot...it's not, but it shows what I mean by my description above. This is my younger daughter 1 day old at the hospital...
