first great blue heron of the year bank vole and mink

the mink was hunting right by the side of the road in the ditch filled with water at one point it was trying to catch the vole but the vole dove the mink did not catch the vole i was photographing the mink when i turned around to check for cars and spotted the heron flying right over the road and got photos but could never locate where it landed.

Nice set. I only get quick glimpses of mink ( usually when they run across the road as I am driving ). We have had some herons but so far I have deleted all I have shot.

Thank you i dont get to see mink very often but i have had good luck with three of them i have seen them four times in my life and three out of the four the mink did not run away right away this one was in hunting mode so it did not really care that i was there to the point where it tried to walk right up to me but i took three big steps back

Mom spotted it I would have missed it because it was on her side of the car in a spot I could not see my mom thought it was a muskrat so did I at first until I saw the tail on it I was hoping it would turn out to be a river otter
