I taught that at this time of the year in Canada I would have to wait for spring before trying my new macro lens on a insect. I got lucky recently, as I was getting home there was a little friend crawling across the driveway. I picked him up and threw him in a container and gathered my gear and went for a 1½ hours traumatizing that poor little thing! He probably crawled miles in his little mind but never left my office's desk since I was making him go from one leaf to another to keep him in front of my camera.:lmao:

I would like to know what you think of the following series.

Also if there is any GIMP2 user among you, could you tell me if there is a way to get rid of the green glare in the middle of some of those pictures? It's a water stain from my last water drop shoot (green water drop = green glare:thumbdown:) Please don't tell me that the solution is to reshoot, my fuzzy buddy is frozen rock solid somewhere in my backyard:lol:!

Thanks for your constructive critiques and wises judgments... Hopefully!

Really, no one loves my fuzzy friend? Is so nice and cuddly!!;)

Should I assume that no comments is a good news!?

I like #2 and #8! what kind of bug is that? Wish I could help on the green glare thing - it does take away a bit from the pictures it shows prominently in but I am a newbie and have not a clue!

#8 is the only one where I can truly make out woollies head. That is a nice sharp shot. I suggest for a series like this, you include a overall view of the caterpillar to provide the viewer a better idea of what they are seeing in the macros.

Thanks Karri! You are looking at Pyrrharctia isabella. They are a late fall type of caterpillar, very common in my area. I'm glad to hear that the green glare doesn't show much. It's probably me, I know it's there and was quite mad that I shot so many without noticing it.

OMG......:-P

You don't want that thing crawling on you in your sleep ;)

Thanks Ron for your suggestion. I will sure add a overall view on my next shoot. Always good to have feedbacks from a macro pro:D

I find these little fuzzy things under logs this time of year. I think they're nice shots and agree with Ron that #8 is the best. Photographing anything black or very dark and fuzzy is a challenge and think you did pretty good at it.

Thanks! That little guy was particularly hard not to have an harsh reflection on his black shiny eyes. My soft box was 2-3 inches away from him and I needed the good angle! I'm glad I managed a few good ones.:D
