So hey guys! Thanks to some of your helpful advice, I ended up purchasing a Nikon D5100 with the kit lens. I actually bought it refurbished, so I have a little bit of extra cash in my pocket for a lens. I'm a newbie to DSLRs, so I don't know what I want to focus on in photography. I'm planning on moving to Tokyo soon, so maybe something that would be good for taking pictures of people within city environments? Not portrait style, but something appropriate for photographic blogging.
I've also done quite a bit of video blogging with my internal Macbook camera, but I'm interested in expanding that and using my new camera for video blogging. This was actually one of the big reasons I bought the D5100 vs a D3200 (the 5100 has a flip out screen.)
So from what I hear, a "Nifty Fifty" might be the best option for a first lens, especially since I don't know specifically what I plan to photograph. Does that sound right? Whatever the case, I'd like a used or refurbished lens, since I'm a soon to be recent grad and don't have a ton of money... but I'd really like to keep it under $150 if possible.
What do you guys suggest?
