Can others edit my Photos
Photos NOT OK to edit
So It's been a real long time since I've posted any photos, just thought that I'd share some from my recent shoot of a 6 month old. Did this shoot on a Saturday afternoon and finished up the editing the next day...seemed real quick to me, any who, Any critiques and comments are more than welcome

as im a noob i like them, with the exception of number 4, because the babys face is out of focus

thanks for the comment! I actually ment to put up some info on how I created these shots....
I used a Canon 500d 35-105mm f3.5-4.5 and used natural lighting and one reflector. #2 and #4 I used map toning
yes, maybe I could've used a smaller aperature to get baby's face in focus too? am I right?

I'm still learning so i don't have a clue sorry!

I'm sure one of the pros will chime in

C&C per req:

1. An odd crop, but it seems to work. The face seems slightly soft, and the sweater is too hot; blown or nearly blown at the back.

2. I think a reflector image right would have helped, as would a leveling of the image. Not sure what the pink smear on the sweater is, but it wouldn't hurt to clone that out. Again the white is a trifle hot.

3. Cute, but rather too centred. I think a foreground and LH side crop would help, especially to remove the out-of-focus boardwalk and the tips of the leaves in the immediate foreground.

4. A nice family shot, but the faces don't all seem to be sharply focused (A downside to this sort of pose is the DoF required) and the crop is much too tight. You've cropped the gentleman's foot and left buttock, as well as the child's feet.

5. I really think we needed to see the child's hands in this one (it would have helped the others as well) especially. I also think moving them slightly so that they didn't have trees growing out of their heads would have helped.

Overall, they're not a bad set. Watch your exposures and when you discuss clothing choices with clients try and avoid the whites if at all possible.

Just my $00.02 worth - your mileage may vary.

Thank you tirediron :)

#1 is in fact not blown, but probably like you said "nearly", but I totally understand ya

#2 had a reflector right, LOL, guess not close enough. The pink "smear" is infact a little horse or something.

#5 I didn't even notice the trees growing out of their head :er:

Thanks so much! I will definately try to use your $00.02 worth next time I shoot....I always tell clients avoid white, and what do they do? they almost always wear white... :grumpy: ...sigh.

Shutter speeds are slow making them soft, #4 F3.5 will not give you enough DOF for that shot looks like you focused on dad

I would suggest using some fill lighting, and or using strobed light to make subjects brighter than the backgrounds. (Light advances, dark receeds)

Although the critiques have been valid, it is nice to keep them in perspective. Overall, these are very good photos.

I happen to really like the shots, keep up the good work.

With number 2 I would have mom move to the side so we are not staring at mom's crotch above baby's head.

Thanks for all the comments and critiques! Tirediron I'd believe your histogram before I'd believe my stuff, so, alright guess I need to check histograms before I rely on the "blown highlight indicator" LOL, much appreciated, thanks for the info!
I've been looking into getting some sort of lighting set up but I still haven't learned much on the end of that spectrum .... all that I have is my pop up flash and sunlight. but I need to look into something because day light savings time sucks and I cannot control the brightness of the sun, nor the weather.
I know these aren't "horrible" persay...but I believe there is always room for improvement ;) Again, thanks for the comments and critiques!

Very nice pictures. And I learned a lot just by reading this thread. Special thanks to tirediron. :)
