First photos

Well I just got my first camera for Christmas, a Canon EOS Rebel T3. I've been messing around with it quite a bit while I'm still trying to figure it out fully. Let me know what you guys think.

You can turn the camera 90° so the frame is vertical instead of horizontal. A couple of your shots could have been more effective if the vertical format was used instead of the horizontal format.

To learn about all the features, functions, and capabilities your T3 has you will need to read the user's manual, likely several times, and keep it handy for quick reference.

From one beginner to another, I can say that your images look really good. You definetly seem to have an eye for composition. I, for example, love the photo number four. I like how the head of the guitar is in focus, but you can still see the blurred out player in the background. The choice of colours is also good. None of the colours in the back- or in the foreground are distracting. This is by far my favourite shot of the five.

The first image I find kind of dull, but that's just me. I don't think it holds in comparison with the other images you have posted. There's nothing really interesting there like in the other images. But you definetly seem to be on the right track as far as I'm concerned. Enjoy your new camera!

Yeah there's still a lot of different variables and what not that I don't think about too much, but I'll be sure to keep horizontal shots in mind. I've also been going through the manual quite a bit and I've been keeping it on me. Thanks for the link!

Thank you, I appreciate the nice comments. And about the the first photo, I don't think it's too great either, I just like looking at how the fire is blurred haha.

The snowman is my favorite. With the fireplace, I would try playing with different exposures or try to zoom in on the ember below the logs. At any rate, good shots. Keep it up.

4 is too blurry, 3 is ok but would have been better to see some of the water area, the rest are good

#1: Shoot this in full manual mode to get perfect control over the exposure time. Play with it in order to illuminate the area around the burning log a bit. I'd imagine it would give the photo more atmosphere. It's too dark for my taste.

#2: More light on the snowman would have been nice. With the focus on the snowman I'd use the blur tool to soften the twigs on the right and you got yourself a nice christmas card design for next year

#3: Yes shallow depth of field can be fun. Shoot lots of pictures to get a feel for it how much is good and when it's too much. Crop is too tight for my taste.

#4,#5: Snapshots. Again #4 shallow depth of field is fun but lighting is an issue here (way too harsh), same issue with the kittie.
