I like the shallow DOF look in portraits and am unsure what boo-boo you are mentioning. I haven't touched up yet the skin these pretty much just have the Color Portrait preset from the SLR Lounge set applied on import to them.

Just above his right eye brow. When you zoom in it's definitely a healed boo-boo.

At first I thought it could have been a birth mark, brown spot or something. but in pic #1 take a good look at it. Easily fixable in post.

It is a mole above his eye. I'll probably remove it for any shots I put on my portfolio but am leaving it in place for the images I deliver to the client.

To me, they look a tad too saturated, not much, but an easy fix. I would also fix the acne. If the main light is more direct, the light would be more proportionate on his skin, although you might have been going for this look.

So the client, mother of the student and the one paying, picked the 1st shot with the shallow DOF as one of the photos she would would like me to edit to completion and deliver. Just thought I would share.

I think for a first time with a client you did really well! I mean, if we're comparing TPF first time posts with paying clients, your set blows about 87% of the typical stuff out of the water.

#4 is really well done and feels very classic. I like some of your other shots as well. However, I do agree with others in that #1 is too shallow. It's great the client likes it (after all, that's what counts) but I found it too distracting for such a close up image. I also like where you were going with #3- maybe a touch too hot with the light, though.

All in all, I think you should be very proud with your first set of images for a paying client. Obviously, there's room for polishing, but you're on the right track with your lighting schemes and posing. Stick with what you know until you are perfected and then add more to your style.

I also wanted to add there's no need to photoshop the young man's mole above his eyebrow. It's a part of who he is and was born with. I don't put this in line with editing out an ugly tattoo (which I have admittedly done).
