Hi this is my first post on TPF, recently got a Nikon D40, here are some of my first shots, would love some advice on how to improve and any opinions.

On 1 the horizon is kind of slanted, also a circular polarizer would probably help. Number 2 could be brighter, unless you were going for a darker mood, in number 3 the bottom of the picture where the sky is is blown out, and I don't see anything wrong with number 4.

#1 you could do some post processing to the picture to pop the colors

#2 it is very dark - i would up the exposure

#3 I think a different angle would have worked here

#4 Add more contrast to the picture so that it doesn't look so flat.

Thanks for the advice. I've noticed that th D40 overexposes quite a bit, what advice do you have to minimise this.
