Photos OK to edit
Hi everyone,

Making my first post on here after looking around for a bit. My name is Brandon Sullivan, I am not new to photography but I haven't had the time to get more serious with it until now. I enjoy shooting wildlife, and landscape photographs more than anything, but I am beginning to broaden my horizons.

Here's a few of my recent shots, I hope they are not too terribly bad. I am looking for some comments and critiques as well.

Thanks for taking the time to look.

The following shots were taken with my Nikon D5000 with a Nikor VR 55-200mm lens.

All your images look sort of hazy somehow...maybe it's just the muted colours. Personally, I would prefer edited versions where the colours popped a little more. Were these all taken on the same overcast day?

The first picture looks a little out of focus where the hawk is concerned. I would also try to crop out the second tree on the right side so you just have a picture of a hawk in a tree against a totally blue background. I like some of the weird poses you caught the hawk at in the other pics though.

The railroad pic is nice too...if you could figure out how to make the colours more interesting while keeping the hazy look in the distance, I think you'd have a real beaut.

The other pics I don't have much of an opinion on...they're all okay, but sort of 'meh.'

Welcome to the forum. Nice bird shots, well taken

Earthmanbuck- Thank you for the critiques. As for the haze to the pictures, it is very humid this time of year. Sometimes upwards of 90%. Its almost like a constant fog some evenings. Thats the only thing I can think of that could be making them like this. As for the other pictures, they were taken late in the evening on the day I got my camera, I agree they do not have too great of subject matter.

Jaomul- Thanks for the welcome!

If you want good critique, don't post a huge lot of pictures.
Post one or two of the best, tell us why you think they are good/bad and then everything you hear will be new to you.

And, your profile is set to not allow your pictures to be edited.
That's not useful for a beginner and I suggest you change that to allow editing.

Pretty good bird pics, but you'll need a longer lens to get really good shots of birds.

Welcome to TPF B.Sullivan...I don't feel like critiquing today as I have had a long week, but I would like to let you know that I really like the train track photo...awesome job...I would recommend numbering your photos though as it makes it easier for people, that do have the energy to critique, to reference the photos.

I like nature shots as well.(:
I agree with the longer lens, especially for nature. What are you currently using?

Also, silly question, how did you post your photos directly here? I can't seem to do that with mine...

Thanks for the comments everyone.

On this day I wasn't expecting to see the hawk and just had my Nikkor VR 55-200mm with me. Ill be sure to tote my zoom lens next time I am in the same area. I have been seeing this same pair of red-tails for the past year.

Kassiexlee- I just uploaded to photobucket then copied the proper url and posted it in the reply box.

Thanks again yall.

Brandon
