This is the first time I've ever photographed a Purple Finch. Now, I'm on the lookout for a male.

good work; i am bit doubtful about the exactness of focus

Regards :)

Thanks Frequency. If it have been sunnier, I could have used a faster shutter speed. I was using a Canon 40D and a Canon 400mm prime lens.

Birds on a perch usually don't move much, so using a slower shutter speed should be fine.

What were the settings?

BTW, good luck capturing the male!

I suspect a very shallow DOF with the focus point being on the wing a little higher up than the tip. The focus point should be on the eye in most cases.

I loved what that guy did to make the little pond and waterfall. I too use a wheelchair (or my 4-wheeler).

Yesterday, I ordered one like this deer hunting blind and am awaiting its delivery. I'm going to use that to shot photo birds from. If it doesn't work out, I'll try the PVC blind like in the article.

Here's one like I ordered:

I'm the one that wrote the article. :)

Looks like that would work. Can't wait to see the results!

try putting some branches near the feeder, set up a perch for the bird, then you can get some shots that look natural and not stuck on a bird feeder
