First time out with new Canon 60D

Got a chance to play around with my new camera. I am one of those "facebook photographers" at the moment. At some point hope to progress to bigger and better things. Still have a bazillion things to learn about. Here are a couple of my favs from yesterday. I am sure you guys can rip them apart from a technical stand point so go easy on me. I dont have photo editing software yet on this comp but its coming soon. Also, I used the kit lens 18-135 mm.

I like where you were going with #3 but I don't like the DOF - I would have liked to see it fade out but with that lens being a 3.5-5.6 its hard to do... Good first time pics for sure. Keep learning.

I have a reversal of that one where the focus was really close and far away was blurred. is that what you mean?

2&3 are nice. #1 is off center too much, #4 the color seems off. Nice work though for no editing

yes, he means focusing on a close subject and having the background fade out. ie blurred. DoF

DoF doesn't mean blurred. DoF means Depth of Field.

"Depth of Field" can be many more things than just 'blurred'.




#4 is my favorite of the bunch. Love his expression.

Isnt that whole rule of thirds thing mean hes suppose to be on the left side? I thought I was suppose to put him there so he looks like hes swinging left to right. If I center him then I lose that...... right?

#1 would have been better in portrait orientation, IMO.
