Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
I was out testing my new tripod again, and wanted to test out HDR. Even though the tonal range of my scene wasn't that big, I still didn't get to cover the entire range. 6 exposures at +2.5, +2, +1, 0, -1, -2.

Also, I don't really realise how people get that cartoony look with the bars I get in photoshop. I choose "file-->automatic-->merge in hdr pro" and select my exposures. Then I choose 16 bit and start testing out those bars. Anyway, here's the result.. What do you think? Any suggestions?

Thank you for your help :)

You tell me :P I just took all exposures I had of that same scene.... :/

The cartoon look comes from excessive tone-mapping.

Photoshop always has, and still does, suck for doing HDR. CS5 is their best effort yet, but they still fall well short.

Here's a suggestion: Post the originals as a Shootout. Then you'll get an idea of how different programs treat them.

What software do you recommend for HDR? I have tried a couple with CS5 and I did not like the result.

I use Photomatix Pro, its pretty user friendly and I like it!

Plus there's a free trial you can download and there's a video on YouTube that shows you how to get the full version FREE! Saves ya $99! I did what the video said and it worked for me!

I have to comment on this. Just because you found a video on YouTube on how to do this doesn't make it legal. This is still considered piracy.

...... and there's a video on YouTube that shows you how to get the full version FREE...........

I found a video on YouTube that shows me how to break in to your house. Does that make it legal for me to take all your jewelry, your wallet, your car and all your gear?

your first shot looks like it still has some clipped highlights in the water and perhaps lost detail in the trees. The photomatix one recovers those, and you should be able to adjust the painterly feel with the slider bars. You can also take the end result and overlay it on the original shots in photoshop at reduced opacity to make it seem more realistic.

Chill out...I didnt say he HAD to do it, nor did I ever state that it was legal. So you post isn't relevant.

......like you really care anyways. Anyways people who pirate it, would never buy it anyways, so it's not taking any money out of their pocket.

Sheesh....seriously....in the grand scheme of things....who cares?

The photomatix edit is worlds better.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and answer that. It's the people who lose millions of dollars every year due to piracy and theft. That's who.

You're pretty gutsy going that far out on a limb... oh wait..
