First walkabout with the new Tamron lens

Today I went out with the new Tamron 18-400mm lens. I was concerned that the loss of 100mm over the Sigma lens I have would be annoyance, but I was really surprised. I captured some shots that I would never have been able to pull off with that large lens.

Some great shots. Is it also a Macro Lens? It's a manual lens, right?

It's the Tamron 18-400mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD, so not a manual lens. It's not so much a macro lens, as it is a super telephoto that lets you get pretty close to the subject, even at 400mm, about 10 inches. Tamron was paying the sales tax at the photo store on their lenses, so I took advantage of that. I had been lugging around a Sigma 50-500mm, which is a really nice lens, but it requires a gun carriage to lug it around for long periods of time.

It is amazing what the super zooms can do today.
In the past, a zoom range like 18-400 would be considered garbage.
