Can others edit my Photos
Photos NOT OK to edit
I posted a while ago asking for advice on what type of lens I should purchase for a certain type of photo that I like to take and I was told to learn my camera to its fullest capabilities and so I've given up on the new lens right now and I have started really using the camera. I have taken some awesome shots (well at least I think they're awesome 0 haha) but we had a party the other night and it was a bit too dark to not use flash so I used the flash that is on the camera but it didn't do justice to the moments that I was taking pictures of. A friend of mine has a Canon E0S (I think?) and a flash attachment. Her pictures turned out beautifully. She captured everyone with a nice bit of flash while the background was still dark and somewhat blurry.

I have the Nikon D90 and was wondering what flash I could buy to make photos like this? Or is it just a matter of a different f-stop, a slow shutter speed and a steadier hand?

These are the pictures from her Canon.

Let me know what I should do! I want fun pictures with crazy light movement :)

you can easily do that with your on camera flash. Just to make it easy for explaination, use TV for 1/10 second (change it to whatever you wnat) maybe about ISO800 with flash on. Move the camera around and fire away.

Ahhhh yes! ISO! Yes! That's awesome! I'll try it tonight and i'll post what I take! :) Thanks!

I prefer your pictures. They captured the moments better. Hers seem like mistakes. I also use a D90. Pick up a sb600 or something comparable. Heres a few from a recent gathering all used sb600 and a few different lens.

Lol, thank you! I just enjoy the 'drunkness' that her pictures capture. Haha.

If you want to shoot like your friend, set the shutter speed low (slow) and have your pop up flash fire rear curtain.

Don't set the ISO too high as you will be getting a lot of noise in your images, if you purchase a flash purchase the Nikon SB700, with a difuser or bounce the flash from the ceiling instead of head on.

These are amazing! This is what I want to capture. These are with the light bouncing off the ceiling or directly on?

All bounced. Including the outdoor shot which was bounced off the wall behind me. Thanks for the compliment. Just some random snaps with a little thought behind it(camera settings and where I want the light to come from)

Wow! And I thought not using a camera strap was living on the edge...

Those are awesome! Who had ever thought that tossing your camera around would do that! Love it!

So what are my chances of getting these type of pictures without an expensive flash? Lol.

Oh and here is another picture I took in an abandoned shack just outside of the city. I didn't use flash but it wasn't necessary. Just open to critiques - though, I think i'm getting the hang of it a bit. I think I'm finally putting the image in my head to the final product of the camera.
