flash/hot shoe issue with Bower SFD728S

Forgive my lack of knowledge, I just starting to get past a point and shoot.
I have a a3000 Interchangeable Lens Digital Camera and I went to the SONY Outlet store while in Florida to get extra lenses and a flash. I tried everything out in the store and the sales man put it all back in the boxes. I didn't open the bag again till I was back in Texas and I just discovered that the hot shoe doesn't fit my camera. It says it is the same model as the one pictured on the box but the base is different from the picture. Someone said I should just go to wolf camera ad get a cheap sync cord. I want to know why the models are the same on both the flash I received and the one on the box when they have different bases and how to describe the connection on the flash I now own if I decide to sell it or I decide to price sync cords online, I want to know what Im looking at and what to call it and what my options are

Sony cameras have a proprietary hot shoe (iISO) they inherited in 2006 when they bought Konica Minolta's camera business.

The standard hot shoe is the ISO 518:2006
