Flash settings xt20

I can't manage to set the flash setting on my Fujifilm xt20. The settings appear grey, as in they can't be changed. Does anybody know why? I want to sync my camera with an external flash.

It's off. I can't manage to sync the flash trigger with the camera. And for some reason I can't set any flash setting. Don't know if there is a link between the two, or maybe I just don't understand how to sync the flash trigger and the camera. I thought they would sync automatically when attaching the trigger, am I doing something wrong there? I'm new with using external flashes.

With respect, Google should turn up answers. Saw several sites that appear to offer relief.

Thanks, after resetting all settings the flash buttons reappeared. So everything is working now
