flashes

so i don't have an actual flash...want one. was looking into the alienbees but thought i would ask opinions first! any are welcome. all I have used so far is continuous lighting.

I assume you are looking for a studio flash/strobe and not just a hot-shoe flash unit?

The Alienbee lights are decent units, but I'd still consider them to be 'entry level' in the world of studio lights. You can certainly find better products, but they can get a lot more expensive. If you are looking for something that isn't too expensive, then AB is a decent option.

I recently bought a couple ocf's made by Bowens. They have great reviews and seem quite well made. I haven't recieved them yet... So I can't offer a personal experience. They are a bit more expensive then the Alienbees but I think they are quite mice. And I did a TON of research before choosing to buy.

If you are looking at staying at/below the Alienbees price point... The Adorama Flashpoint monolights may interest you...
