Don't like the lighting on the first one. Between harshness and being almost directly behind the flower, it just kills too much of the color.
For #2, straightening the horizon is an easy fix. A tougher fix is to make sure you get the bottom of the plant in the frame. I've missed it too and kicked myself later (and 3 states away), but it does make a difference. Also, it's a vertical subject, but with the broad expanse behind, I think the horizontal framing works. Just push your flower one way or the other to the third.
And one more piece of advice from my last flower shots - when you are getting down to flower level, watch out for the prickly pear.
