Foggy Morning Hydro Lines and Layers

Recently I've noticed that I'm shooting/processing everything the same way, mostly detailed, vibrant or rich colours. This morning was wonderfully foggy and perfect to try to broaden my horizons lol .
There were wonderful lines and layers everywhere! These two are a couple of my favourites
Would love to hear your thoughts, thanks for taking a look!








This one I slipped into a higher contrast again but as most of you know I can't resist a good hydro line shot

I really like the layers in No.1. No.2 needs some pop or ?????

I really like #1.

I'd really like to see it in color. All of those grey tones works for this photo but it doesn't really stand out to me. (just read about you trying to broaden your horizons).

If you don't think it works in color I think that the highlights should be brought up a bit.

Oh, there really isn't much colour in the colour versions... Mind you I didn't play with the temperature on them.... Hmmm

1 I like.

2 not so much. Looks a bit dark for my taste and you lose the curved lines from the guardrail and road as a result, which might have made for a stronger composition.
The crop feels a bit crowded as well.

N°1 is very nice. Not keen on N°2, though.

Thanks Sleist and Fred. I think I'm perhaps trying to make #2 something that it isn't by trying to keep the contrast at a minimum. I will revisit processing and comp.

I like the moodiness and the way the foreground plays off the nearer and farther backgrounds. I think this needs to be seen larger.

Hey Ken, good point, I read your comment before I played with the processing again (wasn't happy with the results ) there is a lot of detail that gets lost small.

Sorry if I'm a dummy but these look like regular ole power lines...what are "hydro lines"?

After hurricane sandy some Canadian companies sent trucks down to help restore power. A few of them said something about "hydro" and I thought it must of had something to do with power produced by water

Ah, I can only speak for Ontario but yes you are kinda right originally, many moons ago, it all WAS water/hydro generated power. There were small generator stations on the rivers and a large one at Niagara Falls and the power company was (Ontario) Hydro. It has stuck even today when we have the largest operating nuclear power plant in the world *sigh*
