I would start with a less intensive processing style; dial back the saturation and contrast, and try capture more of the scene. Detail shots are great, but you want to have some wider views to situate the viewer as well.

I would tone down the saturation, too. But not much. Good composition.

If you flip the top pic left to right you could have a US flag thing going.

I agree that dialing down the saturation will help these. I like the composition of both though.

I know that sounds horrible, but really, there's nothing in these shots you want to duplicate. Take the polar opposite of most of your choices here and you might have something interesting. Take it as a prompt or an exercise. Try it and I think you'll be surprised.
